An Energy Star home is approximately 20 to 30% more efficient than the typical home. In order to get an Energy Star Label, the home must meet several established guidelines by the EPA. These guidelines can be determined by an independent home energy rater and a look at such things as the type of construction, heating and cooling systems, windows and insulation that is installed by the builder. Materials are important but more critical is the proper installation for top energy efficiency. A home that is three stories or less can earn the energy Star label and once it has been verified to meet certain standards. Concrete homes were among one of the building types that has recently been given the Energy Star Label.
